I have no set shot list so your Lifestyle Photography Session will run organically. The best Lifestyle photographs are created when everyone is relaxed and just being themselves. As this takes time I only book one session a day so that we can spend time getting to know each other and I can dedicate myself to you and your family. This also allows some flexibility on the day as I won’t be rushing off to another shoot.
Lifestyle Photography Session Signature shoots take place indoors at your home so there’s never any worries about the weather. They last up to two and a half hours allowing time for a change of outfit and for you to venture outside into the garden if you wish. Sessions are typically scheduled for 10.30 in the mornings, particularly in the winter as the light is better then, or around 1.30 in the afternoons. Newborn shoots are best done in the mornings as they can last a bit longer, allowing extra time for feeding and nappy changes.
After we’ve had a chat and I’ve shown you some of my work close up, I’ll have a good look around for the best sources of natural light, which are often upstairs. Please don’t tidy up too much beforehand. My youngest son has a ‘floordrobe’ so I know only too well what family life is like! I bring a selection of lightweight drapes with me for maternity sessions, but you can show as much or as little as you want.
Shorter shoots tend to suit older children more and it’s better to be outside where there’s plenty to do. Your Outdoor Lifestyle Photography session will last around one and a half hours and can be booked for 10.00, 10.30, 1.30. There’s also a 4.00 time slot available from May to September because the afternoon light can be really beautiful at that time of the day.
Outdoor shoots are particularly suitable for children over the age of four because it can often involve a bit of walking as well as lots of playing. Any park, forest or open space that you enjoy visiting is perfect. It’s rare that I have to reschedule due to bad weather . . . that’s usually when snow makes it difficult for me to travel to you or the rain is coming down sideways . . . as long as you’re dressed for it, snow and a bit of mist can add a beautiful atmosphere to your photos!
After your booking is confirmed I will email you a Welcome Pack with useful tips on preparing for your session and a guide of what to expect afterwards. You can also read the frequently asked Lifestyle Photography session questions section.
